Who is Laxton?
Laxton is a self service solution’s specialist – meaning we develop solutions for public access. This includes our flagship Risa licensed legal jukebox.
Why do I need a legal jukebox?
Most jukeboxes operate illegally – by not using licensed music and not paying royalties for song plays. In recent times Risa has been enforcing their rights. This has resulted in a number of operations being “raided” as they violate piracy conditions. See the following links for specific cases:

What is the Laxton legal Jukebox solution?
The Laxton jukebox is a Risa licensed jukebox solution for operators. The solution’s primary objective is to provide a platform from which jukebox operators can continue running their businesses; without having to worry about the legal side. We will pay the royalties on your behalf and handle all the legal wrangling.
The solution comprises of the following:
Laxton legal jukebox: The legal jukebox
Laxtonairtime.com: The website from which operators can manage and obtain statistics from their website.
The following diagram demonstrates how the system works:
How does the Laxton Jukebox System work?
The system works on a prepaid basis. Airtime credits are purchased online and allocated (via the website) to the jukeboxes (as need be). Each credit represents one song play on that jukebox. The jukebox reports statistics back to the main Laxton server. This enables up-to-date statistics on your jukebox.
Airtime credits are purchased in batches of 1000 for R400. This equates to 40c a song play on the system. To illustrate the operator loading airtime process, see below:
What does the 40c include?
The 40c includes the following:
RISA licensing fees
Site membership
All connection fees
What does the actual Juke system look like?
Below are sample screen shots of the Laxton jukebox in operation. The main screen presents the Jukebox system that a member of public would see. The user navigates the screen, selecting the album they want to listen to a song off. A song list is presented from which the user can make their decision.

What are the benefits of the Laxton jukebox solution?
The solution has a number of benefits over its competitors:
Visually rich jukebox solution: the jukebox software is visually rich. It therefore attracts more attention which results in more coin drops.
Reusability of existing components: a number of existing components can be reused in the Laxton jukebox system. The reuse of components saves the operator money. Here is a list of reusable components:
Interface & amp
Hard Drive
Transformer
Comparators
1000 airtime credits bundled: a 1000 credits are bundled with the Laxton jukebox solution. The jukebox is truly plug-and-play – making money from the day that it is purchased.
3 month carry-in warranty on new components: new hardware components carry a 3 month carry-in worry.
A team dedicated to excellence: the team at Laxton is dedicated to perfection. The website is under constant scrutiny, and new features are being added. The team at Laxton is committed to delivering the operator with a legal system that will empower the operator to make the most money; whilst providing a comprehensive web toolkit to supplement the operator’s business.
Receive statistics on the latest music trends: see what music (songs, albums, artists) that is working in the country.
Music headache is removed: Laxton takes care of the music – by creating music batches that are issued, and can be loaded onto the jukeboxes. Music batches are created using a combination of current play statistics, new music and industry information. This ensures that the music is always right and current on your jukebox.
How does new music work?
Laxton issues out music batches every +-3 months. There are a number of batches to choose from, and a jukebox can be loaded with any batch. The statistics from the website are combined with new music to ensure that the best possible music mix is available on a batch. A batch is issued out on a memory stick. The memory stick is inserted into the jukebox (the jukebox needs to be on). The operator needs to follow the prompts. Once the batch is loaded the jukebox needs to be restarted. The new music will be present.
